Suggestions for Beginning Yoga


Yoga is best practiced on an empty stomach. If the timing of the class makes this inconvenient try a light snack of fruit or juice. (Coffee or tea for a morning practice)

Please let me know about any injuries or conditions that may affect your practice.

Turn cells phones off or on vibrate if necessary.

Yoga is practiced in bare feet on a sticky mat. Wear comfortable clothing that will allow you full range of motion.

Bring a towel if you sweat a lot.

Don’t push it! Instead of trying to go as deeply or completely into a pose, as someone else may be able to, do what you can without straining.

If you feel pain in a posture: stop and back off.

 If you are grimacing to hold a pose it’s too much. You’ll go farther faster by taking a loving attitude toward yourself and your practice. Ahimsa: nonviolence starts with how you treat yourself, thus preventing yoga injuries!
